On July 2, Etihad Airways launched its inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This new route marks the airline's longest by distance. The flight was nearly full and operated on a 5.9-year-old Airbus A350-1000.

The journey took 14 hours and 37 minutes, according to Flightradar24. Traveling in business class, expectations were high due to the newest business class features on Etihad's A350-1000s. These expectations were met.

The day began early with a chauffeur-driven BMW ride from Yas Island to the airport, arriving at Etihad's dedicated business and first-class terminal. Check-in took around 20 minutes due to issues with an ESTA visa number entry.

Etihad's terminal offers a significant improvement over previous facilities, with spacious architecture and high ceilings. However, there was a spelling error noted on the flight information boards.

During this trip, an invitation was extended to visit Etihad's first-class lounge near gate C29. Although lacking some amenities found in the business lounge, it provided an elegant experience with à la carte dining options.

A major advantage of flying from Abu Dhabi is the US pre-clearance facility, allowing passengers to arrive as domestic travelers in the US. The process was smooth for premium passengers.

In-flight service included comfortable seating arrangements in Collins Aerospace Vector suites with privacy screens and manual window shades. The entertainment system featured an 18.5" touchscreen with limited movie selections but reliable Wi-Fi for texting.

Meals served onboard were highly praised, including beetroot and ginger soup, sea bass, flangipane dessert, pancakes, and tandoori kebabs.

Upon arrival at Atlanta’s runway 27L slightly behind schedule at 16:30 local time, there was a water salute and enthusiastic welcome from staff and officials at Concourse F.

Antonoaldo Neves is the CEO of Etihad Airways which operates as a full-service carrier based out of Abu Dhabi International Airport since its founding in 2003.
