Cirium Diio data reveals that the United States is seeing 6,335 departing long-haul international flights this week, averaging 905 takeoffs daily. These long-haul flights cover at least 3,000 statute miles. Among over 800 passenger routes available, the average frequency is daily, with some routes having two or three daily departures. However, there are also routes with just one weekly flight.

An analysis shows that 15 long-haul international US routes have only one weekly flight. Routes with two or more weekly services were excluded from this count. For instance, TUI Airways operates a weekly service from Manchester to Melbourne (Florida), but its Newcastle to Melbourne route has two flights and is thus excluded.

The list of routes combines nonstop and one-stop operations. For example, Fiji Airways offers a weekly nonstop between Nadi and Honolulu but increases to three weekly when including its one-stop operations via Apia and Kiritimati.

These markets typically cater to leisure travelers or those visiting friends and relatives, resulting in high load factors. For instance, LOT Polish achieved over 91% loads between Kraków and Rzeszów last year according to US Department of Transportation data.

TAP Air Portugal recently began operating from Terceira in the Azores Islands to San Francisco using its highest-capacity equipment, the A330-900. This new route caters mainly to the large Azorean/Portuguese population in the San Francisco Bay area after Azores Airlines ceased flying between Terceira and Oakland in late last year.

Similarly, Neos started its service from Bari in Italy directly connecting it with New York JFK using the Boeing Dreamliner aircraft as part of its Milan-JFK-Bari-JFK-Milan rotation.
