The Dragon Bravo wildfire has led to the evacuation and closure of the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park for the rest of 2025. The fire caused damage, including the destruction of structures such as the visitor center and Grand Canyon Lodge. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Hiking trails like the North Kaibab Trail, South Kaibab Trail, and Phantom Ranch are also closed due to a chlorine gas release from a destroyed water treatment facility. Those with permits for rim-to-rim hikes will be affected by these closures.

Grand Canyon National Park has three entrances: South Rim, East entrance, and North Rim. The South Rim remains open and is popular with visitors due to its amenities. The North Rim is more remote and traditionally opens seasonally from May to October.

Travelers can still visit the South Rim safely despite smoke visibility. However, state Route 67 into the North Park entrance is closed. For updates on trail closures or conditions, travelers should consult the park's website or contact the Backcountry Permit office.

The NPS provides real-time updates on emergency messages through their website. They also offer webcam views at key points along the South Rim for traffic conditions and air quality monitoring.

Due to another fire called White Sage Fire, parts of state Route 89A in northern Arizona are closed. Travelers heading north towards Zion National Park should check road conditions via Arizona 511.

The reopening date for the North Rim after damage from Dragon Bravo Fire is uncertain. It typically closes around mid-October annually due to weather conditions.

For those with bookings at affected areas in Grand Canyon National Park, especially at lost facilities like Grand Canyon Lodge operated by Aramark, cancellations are expected. Future reservation holders will be contacted soon according to lodge statements online.

Campsite reservations at North Rim have been canceled; alternatives include Mather and Desert View campgrounds on the South Rim as per Recreation.gov announcements.

For information on whether credit cards or trip insurance cover changes due to natural disasters like this fire incident at Grand Canyon National Park refer to TPG’s guide covering trip cancellation policies related scenarios involving travel interruptions caused by natural disasters.
