Dnata, a prominent global air and travel services provider, has launched a fleet of autonomous vehicles at Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC). This deployment introduces advanced technology in ramp operations, marking a significant move towards automation in ground handling services.
The company now operates six electric tractors, the EZTow model developed by TractEasy, at DWC. Traditionally, baggage transport between terminals and aircraft required human drivers working under tight time constraints. The new autonomous vehicles enhance this process by towing up to four baggage containers at speeds of up to 15 km/h along pre-defined routes.
As these vehicles become integrated into operations, staff who previously drove baggage tractors can focus on more complex tasks, supporting faster turnarounds. The use of autonomous driving also reduces the risk of human error, enhancing safety for everyone involved in airside operations.
