Avelo Airlines has announced its decision to cease operations at its West Coast base in California by the end of the year. This marks a significant shift for the budget airline, which began its first flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) four years ago. The airline cites market competition as a key factor behind this move.
The withdrawal will see Avelo focusing more on its East Coast operations, where it already has a stronger presence. The company plans to leverage this established market to improve its financial standing after experiencing challenging months.
CEO Andrew Levy commented on the closure, stating, "Our company's deepest operational roots are in Burbank," and acknowledged that it was "not an easy decision." Avelo aims to redeploy aircraft from Burbank to areas with better growth prospects and expand its East Coast operations.
