Etihad Airways is set to expand its operations with the introduction of seven new routes from Abu Dhabi International Airport. The airline will launch or relaunch services to Almaty, Baku, Bucharest, Medina, Tashkent, Tbilisi, and Yerevan. This move comes as Wizz Air Abu Dhabi prepares to cease all flights.

The addition of these destinations marks a significant step for Etihad, which has been increasing its network recently. Some routes have already commenced, including the airline's first service to Atlanta. Others are scheduled to begin soon with the help of Airbus A321LR aircraft equipped with first-class cabins.

More than half of the newly added cities were previously served by Etihad before Wizz Air's announcement to end flights prompted their return. Although Wizz Air did not serve Tbilisi directly from Abu Dhabi, it operated flights to Kutaisi in Georgia.

Etihad's decision may have been influenced by the growth achieved by Wizz Air and how well Air Arabia Abu Dhabi has performed on five similar routes. The potential success of these routes was likely assessed based on current market conditions and past performance.

The schedule for these new routes includes varying frequencies starting from late 2025 into early 2026:

- Almaty: March 16, 2026 (eight weekly)

- Baku: March 2, 2026 (ten weekly)

- Bucharest: March 16, 2026 (four weekly)

- Medina: November 9, 2025 (six weekly)

- Tashkent: March 17, 2025 (six weekly)

- Tbilisi: March 13, 2026 (eight weekly)

- Yerevan: March 9, 2026 (ten weekly)

In addition to these seven destinations, Etihad plans to introduce more routes in the coming years. Among them are Algiers, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Medan, Phnom Penh, and Tunis aboard their incoming Airbus A321LRs.

Etihad will also commence a new route to El Alamein on July 17 with a twice-weekly service using an A320ceo until August end. This expansion doubles Etihad's Egyptian network alongside existing Cairo services.
