On July 22, Royal Brunei Airlines will resume flights to London Gatwick, marking the UK's second-longest nonstop flight. This service, which will last until August 19, features five round-trip flights for the school holidays. It is the first nonstop operation between Brunei and the UK in over two years.

Royal Brunei will join other airlines at Gatwick this year, including Air Sierra Leone, Uganda Airlines, Gulf Air, and Kenya Airways. Meanwhile, Air India plans to cease operations there. Royal Brunei's history with London dates back to 1990 when it flew to Gatwick using Boeing aircraft and later shifted to Heathrow via Dubai in 1991.

The airline will offer a Tuesday-only service between Bandar Seri Begawan and Gatwick as a temporary addition to its thrice-weekly Bandar-Dubai-Heathrow route. This decision aims to address capacity needs during the school holidays.

The operation schedule includes flight BI4003 departing at 10:00 and arriving at 18:00 (15 hours), and BI4004 departing at 20:00 and arriving at 18:25+1 (15 hours and 25 minutes). The route previously operated nonstop from October 2018 on a Boeing 787-8 but returned to a stopover in Dubai in November 2022 due to improved performance metrics despite increased travel time.

During this period, only Qantas' Perth-Heathrow flight surpasses Royal Brunei's new service in duration. If one-stop services are considered, Royal Brunei ranks sixth longest among UK services during this timeframe.
