The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new initiative aimed at easing the airport security experience for families traveling with children. The "Families on the Fly" campaign will establish dedicated family lanes to help reduce wait times and improve hospitality during the screening process, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

This development is part of TSA's ongoing efforts to streamline security procedures for travelers. Earlier this month, the agency eliminated its long-standing policy requiring most travelers to remove their shoes at checkpoints. Additionally, TSA has introduced dedicated screening lanes and front-of-line privileges for military members in TSA PreCheck lanes at select airports near military bases.

The "Families on the Fly" program will initially be available at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Orlando is a major travel hub due to its proximity to popular family attractions such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando.

TSA plans to expand the program soon to other airports, including John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California; Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu; Charleston International Airport (CHS); Jacksonville International Airport (JAX); Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD); Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Tampa International Airport (TPA).

Another benefit for traveling families will be a reduced fee for TSA PreCheck applications, lowering the cost from $100 to $85 per person. However, specific details and launch dates for these discounts have not yet been announced.

Secretary Noem also suggested that changes might be forthcoming regarding TSA's regulations on liquids allowed in carry-on luggage. Currently, passengers are limited to containers of 3.4 ounces or less per item within a small clear bag; larger containers must be placed in checked baggage.
