Cathay Pacific has opened a new Digital and IT office in Shenzhen at the Qianhai Kerry Centre. The opening ceremony was attended by Jiang Likun, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Wen Ping, Deputy Director General of the Qianhai Authority, and Cathay's executive leadership team including Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam, Director Chinese Mainland Arnold Cheng, and Director Digital and IT Lawrence Fong.

The new office is part of Cathay's strategic expansion in the Chinese Mainland following its Guangzhou IT office established in 2024. This move aims to enhance collaboration between teams in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen as part of digital development efforts in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). "Digital transformation is crucial to Cathay’s future success," said Ronald Lam.

Located in Qianhai, a leading pilot zone for Shenzhen-Hong Kong integration, the office will support Cathay's digital transformation by leveraging regional innovation capabilities. It spans over 25,000 square feet and features advanced facilities designed for collaboration and innovation. The office also includes an "Innovation Space" for technological research and product showcases.

Cathay plans to expand its Digital and IT team in the Chinese Mainland to over 200 people by the end of 2025. Additionally, it will extend its Digital & IT Graduate Trainee Programme across other cities in GBA. The 8th annual Cathay Hackathon will take place in November 2025.

Cathay has committed over HK$100 billion towards investments including fleet enhancements and digital services. Lawrence Fong stated that more than HK$3 billion annually is allocated to technological research to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.

Looking forward, Cathay aims to leverage its Shenzhen IT office for aviation innovation within China's civil aviation industry.
