Delta Air Lines reports second near miss incident within one week

Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City experienced a near miss involving an Aeromexico Connect Embraer E190 and a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-800. Conflicting clearances led to both aircraft being cleared for the same runway, resulting in a loss of separation. The Delta plane was forced to reject its takeoff at 60 knots as the Aeromexico flight overflew it before landing safely.

Delta Air Lines has reported the incident to aviation authorities and is cooperating with investigations. A spokesperson stated, "Because nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, Delta will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances around this flight are investigated."

The incident caused delays for both flights. Delta's Boeing 737-800 returned to its gate for additional fuel and consultations before departing three hours late. It arrived in Atlanta over two hours behind schedule. The Aeromexico flight landed early but faced subsequent delays.

This marks the second near miss involving Delta within a week. On July 18, a SkyWest Airlines Embraer E175 operating as Delta Connection had to perform a go-around due to encountering a B-52 Stratofortress bomber on its path.

Delta Air Lines, founded in 1929 and part of the SkyTeam alliance, operates from multiple hubs including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Its CEO is Ed Bastian.

Footage has surfaced showing one of the pilots explaining the situation to passengers after the go-around, expressing surprise at not being informed about the unusual maneuver required.
