Irish aircraft lessor Avolon has announced a significant order with Airbus, acquiring an additional 90 twin-engine commercial aircraft. The deal includes 15 widebody A330neo jets and 75 narrowbody A321neo jets, increasing Avolon's total order book for these types to nearly 350 units. This move highlights the industry's shift from older quadjets to modern twinjets.

Avolon CEO Andy Cronin expressed confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft, stating: "This order demonstrates our strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. Our scale and balance sheet position us to support our airline customers’ expansion and replacement needs into the next decade. Both the A321neo and A330neo are in high demand, and we expect this to continue given the long-term growth trajectory for the aviation sector."

The announcement follows a similar order placed by Avolon two years ago, indicating continued trust in Airbus' products. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus' EVP Sales of Commercial Aircraft, remarked on the importance of lessors as market indicators: "Lessors are excellent barometers of the aircraft market."

The planes ordered could serve various airlines due to lessors' diverse client bases. De Saint-Exupéry noted that this deal "has helped open new markets and broaden the customer base for both aircraft types," highlighting their appeal across different routes.

Deliveries from this order will extend until 2033, with potential future purchases also on the horizon. Avolon has secured purchase rights for an additional 25 A321neos and options for another 15 A330neos.

Currently, data from Cirium shows that Avolon's fleet includes 87 standard A320neo models and 32 examples of the A321neo already in service.
