Mr. Mesfin Tasew Group Chief Executive Officer | Ethiopian Airlines

The Ethiopian Airlines Group recently marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its expanded Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. The event took place on July 22, 2025, at the Ethiopian MRO Services premises in Addis Ababa. Attendees included Ethiopian Airlines Management Board Chairman His Excellency Let. Gen. Yilma Merdasa and Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew.

Mr. Mesfin Tasew commented on the occasion: “The completion of these advanced MRO facilities significantly enhances our technical capability and reinforces our position as a key player on the global stage." He further stated, "As we strengthen our infrastructure, we reaffirm our dedication to supporting Africa’s aviation renaissance and solidifying Ethiopia’s place as a continental hub for world-class aviation services and sustainable growth.”

The expansion project required an investment of over USD 150 million and took three years to complete. The new facilities represent a major enhancement in technical infrastructure for Ethiopian MRO Services, which already includes more than 1,200 components in its FAA-approved repair capability list. The new Component Maintenance Workshop adds over 170 new components to this list.

Furthermore, two wide-body General Maintenance Hangars have been added, bringing the total number of hangars at Ethiopian MRO to eight. This addition greatly increases maintenance capacity.

Additionally, a Central Warehouse with an area of 15,000 square meters now features an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), improving spare parts management efficiency.
