Benoît de Saint-Exupéry Executive Vice President Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus | Airbus

Etihad Airways has received its first Airbus A321LR, marking a significant milestone for the airline. The aircraft was delivered at Airbus' facilities in Hamburg, Germany, and is registered as A6-LRA. It is set to begin passenger service on August 1 with a flight to Phuket.

The airline plans to operate 30 of these next-generation narrowbody jets. The A321LR's performance will allow Etihad to open new short to medium-haul routes that do not require larger aircraft. Many initial destinations align with Etihad's 'Extraordinary Challenge.'

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry from Airbus stated: "The delivery of Etihad’s first Airbus A321LR is a powerful symbol of innovation and partnership, strengthening the long-standing relationship between Airbus and the UAE."

The aircraft features a luxurious configuration with 14 business class flatbeds and two exclusive first-class suites. Economy class includes 144 seats designed for comfort, each equipped with a 13.3-inch touchscreen.

Etihad will initially fly the A321LR between Abu Dhabi and Phuket, expanding later to other destinations such as Algiers, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, and Zurich. Some destinations are part of Etihad's 'Extraordinary Challenge,' rewarding frequent flyers who visit all locations within a year.

CEO Antonoaldo Neves expressed enthusiasm about the fleet expansion: "an aircraft that changes everything we thought possible on a single-aisle plane." The airline expects nine more deliveries by the end of 2025.
