Chicago-based United Airlines is among the largest carriers in the United States, boasting a fleet of over 1,000 aircraft. It operates an extensive domestic network and continues to expand internationally. As a founding member of the Star Alliance, United collaborates with approximately 25 airlines, facilitating over 19,000 daily flights across 1,300 global airports.

United's fleet comprises both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The airline has more widebody planes than any other major U.S. carrier. The average age of its fleet is 15.6 years. Narrowbody operations are supported by Airbus A319-100, A320-200, and A321neo models alongside several Boeing variants like the 737 MAX series.

The airline's most popular route in 2025 is between Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), operating an average of 13 flights per day according to Cirium data. This service offers around 2,100 seats daily over a distance of 733 miles.

Chicago O'Hare serves as one of United's primary hubs with various domestic and international destinations. On this route to LaGuardia, United competes with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Spirit Airlines.

Another significant route for United is from Chicago O'Hare to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), which ranks second in popularity for the year with about 11 flights daily.

Orlando International Airport to Newark ranks third among United’s busiest routes in 2025. The service will operate nearly ten times daily on average throughout the year.

Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) links prominently with Chicago O'Hare as well as Denver International Airport (DEN). These routes highlight Houston’s importance within United’s network following its merger with Continental Airlines.

United maintains major hubs at airports including Denver International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport but does not feature these locations in its top ten most popular routes for this year.

Overall competition remains robust on many routes; however certain city pairs see fewer direct competitors due primarily due strategic alliances or partnerships through networks like Star Alliance or other commercial agreements established by United itself.
