From 2001 to 2024, German airline Condor operated direct flights from Frankfurt, Germany, to Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon Territory. These flights have been suspended due to runway reconstruction at Whitehorse Airport and the retirement of Condor's Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Travelers now need to transfer in Vancouver or Calgary.

The airport in Whitehorse is currently undergoing extensive work on its primary runway, leaving it without international flights. There is potential for Condor to resume service in 2026 with Airbus A330neos, but doubts remain about the airport's ability to accommodate these larger planes.

Germans are known for their love of nature and hiking, making Yukon's vast wilderness an attractive destination. The territory spans over 186,000 square miles and has a population of around 40,000 people. The largest settlement is Whitehorse with approximately 28,000 residents.

Erik Nielsen International Airport serves as the main airport for the region and had nearly 38,000 aircraft movements in 2023. Airlines such as Air Canada and WestJet offer flights primarily to Vancouver and Calgary.

Condor was a leading leisure airline operating from Frankfurt Airport with a fleet that included Boeing 757-300s and Airbus A320 family aircraft. The suspension of flights to Whitehorse was due to both the runway reconstruction project at the airport and the retirement of its Boeing 767-300s.

CBS News reported that even after runway completion, additional improvements would be necessary for Whitehorse Airport to handle Airbus A330neos safely. While Condor continues flying into Canadian cities like Vancouver and Calgary, they also explore other wilderness destinations through interline agreements with airlines such as Alaska Airlines and WestJet.
