Korean Air has scheduled only two Boeing 747-8 flights to Frankfurt this autumn, according to the aviation analytics company Cirium. Typically, the South Korean flag carrier operates its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on routes to Frankfurt, Germany, rarely deploying other aircraft types.

In an unusual move, the airline will fly the higher-capacity Boeing 747-8s for select flights from Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Cirium data shows that one flight is scheduled for September and another for October 2025. The reason behind this deployment is unknown. Simple Flying has reached out to Korean Air for comment.

According to Cirium data, the Seoul-Frankfurt route sees the highest number of scheduled flights from August to October. This year, Korean Air will operate 17 flights per month during that period, compared to a typical schedule of up to 14 flights per month during the summer and spring months.

Of the 17 flights in both September and October, one per month will be operated with a Boeing 747-8, while the remaining 16 will use the Boeing 777-300ER. The increased capacity may be intended to accommodate higher demand for travel from South Korea to Germany in September and October as the 2025 Frankfurt Oktoberfest is set to take place at Deutsche Bank Park from September 18 to October 12, 2025.

According to ch-aviation data, Korean Air’s Boeing 747-8 aircraft can accommodate 368 passengers in a three-class configuration: six in first class, 48 in business class, and 314 in economy. In comparison, the airline’s 777-300ERs seat up to 277 passengers with eight in first class,42 in business class,and227in economy.
