Greg Foran Chief Executive Officer | Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand has announced plans for a new flagship Koru Lounge at Auckland International Airport. The upcoming lounge will nearly double in size, featuring two separate areas: one for Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers, and another for Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver, and Koru members.

Greg Foran, CEO of Air New Zealand, emphasized the customer-centric design of the lounges. "We've designed our new lounges around what our customers told us matters most - more space, more seating, and the ability to choose how they spend their time," Foran stated. The overall seating capacity across both lounges will increase by 70%, offering greater comfort and capacity for international travelers.

The lounge will feature diverse areas tailored to different traveler needs. "We know our customers value having spaces that are suited to their travel needs," Foran explained. These include quiet business areas, family-friendly spaces, and social zones.

Inspired by Aotearoa's natural beauty, the interiors will showcase local sights through colors, materials, furnishings, lighting, and art. Construction is set to begin in early 2026 in two phases while maintaining reduced-capacity operations in the current lounge.

Upon completion of the first phase dedicated to Elite and Business Premier customers' lounge by late 2027, redevelopment of the existing lounge will follow. Travelers will receive updates on accommodations during construction via the Air NZ app.

The current lounge measures approximately 2,000sqm; with expansions totaling 3,700sqm. Features include improved business workspaces and comfortable relaxation areas. Additionally a barista bar positioned closer to entrances aims at convenience for travelers short on time.

Further details on design elements are expected later this year along with specific construction timelines.
