Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways have both announced the addition of seven new routes each, expanding their networks to include new cities and increasing connectivity across the United States.

Allegiant Air will introduce Fort Myers as its 12th airport in Florida, marking the first time it has served this city directly. The carrier has previously used Punta Gorda to serve the region. With these changes, Allegiant will operate flights from both Fort Myers and Punta Gorda, similar to its dual operations at Orlando International and Sanford airports.

All seven of Allegiant’s new routes are scheduled to begin in time for Thanksgiving. While some routes may start with three weekly services due to holiday demand, most will settle into a standard frequency of two flights per week. These new connections include Fort Myers to Allentown, Appleton, and Des Moines; Fort Wayne to Fort Lauderdale; Nashville to Gulf Shores; Toledo to Sarasota; and Punta Gorda to New Orleans. Except for the Fort Wayne-Fort Lauderdale route—which was last operated by Allegiant until May 2008—all other airport pairs are currently unserved by any airline.

According to data from the US Department of Transportation, when Allegiant previously operated between Fort Wayne and Fort Lauderdale, it filled 79% of available seats—seven points below its network average at that time. Rising fuel prices contributed to discontinuing that service in 2008.

Breeze Airways is also expanding by adding Lincoln (Nebraska) and Tri-Cities (Tennessee) as new destinations on its map. This marks Breeze's entry into Nebraska for the first time and doubles its Tennessee destinations alongside Memphis. The airline previously served Nashville until 2023.

Among Breeze’s newly announced routes are Albany-Fort Myers; Lincoln-Orlando International; Raleigh/Durham-Portsmouth; Tri-Cities-Orlando International; Tri-Cities-Washington Dulles; Rochester-Fort Myers; and Manchester-Myrtle Beach. Only one route faces direct competition from another carrier. Several others follow market exits by other airlines or represent markets with significant indirect passenger traffic.

For example, Lincoln’s connection with Orlando International will make Breeze only the second carrier at Lincoln Airport after United Express, which flies regional jets to Chicago O’Hare and Denver. Historically, Delta Connection flew from Lincoln until 2022 while Northwest Airlines ended service there in 2010.

As of July 29, subject to change, Breeze plans service at eleven Florida airports: Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Key West, Orlando International (https://www.orlandoairports.net/), Pensacola, Sarasota, Tampa, Vero Beach, and West Palm Beach—with speculation about possible future expansion into Destin-Fort Walton Beach based on current unserved demand from Raleigh/Durham.

Industry data indicates that between July-December this year Breeze will offer nearly 140 Florida routes—including three within-state connections—and expects over 300 weekly one-way flights in August rising above 370 in December.

"These expansions reflect both carriers’ strategies of identifying underserved markets," said representatives for both airlines.
