Zhao Dong President of Xiamen Airlines | Xiamen Airlines

Xiamen Airlines is preparing for the busy summer travel season by scheduling over 40,000 flights. This includes 2,878 flights on new routes and 1,630 flights with increased frequency. The airline states that these additions support its goal of “helping more people travel the world” while maintaining a focus on safety and service quality.

The company’s new domestic routes will connect its main bases in Xiamen and Hangzhou with destinations in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. Among the 24 new routes are services from Hangzhou, Shanghai, Changsha, and Xiamen (via Nanjing) to Hailar; direct flights from Xiamen and Fuzhou to Urumqi; and direct connections from Xiamen, Hangzhou, Beijing, and Tianjin to Xining.

Additionally, frequencies are being increased on 11 popular leisure routes such as Xiamen and Fuzhou to Xishuangbanna; Hangzhou and Changsha to Hohhot; as well as Hangzhou to Dalian, Kunming, and Beihai. Fourteen other market-driven routes are also being introduced.

Internationally, Xiamen Airlines plans to launch a Tianjin-Tokyo Haneda service and add more flights between Xiamen-Singapore and Xiamen-Kuala Lumpur. There will also be more frequent flights on existing international routes including Xiamen-Amsterdam, Xiamen-Doha, Xiamen-Tokyo Narita, and Hangzhou-Osaka.

In response to the challenges of operating during high-volume periods compounded by weather issues such as thunderstorms or typhoons, the airline has organized cross-departmental meetings to address operational difficulties. The company reports that it has reviewed aircraft condition, crew reserves, and contingency measures in order to ensure safe operations during the summer period.

For travelers during this peak time—particularly unaccompanied minors and first-time flyers—Xiamen Airlines is introducing an “unaccompanied express” service. This includes a dedicated security lane for domestic remote-stand departures in the morning rush that reduces waiting times by about 15 minutes per passenger. Additional support includes a separate check-in area and one-to-one gate escort from counter to aircraft for these passengers. First-time travelers receive staff guidance throughout their journey along with special first-flight envelopes and wristbands.

To protect baggage during busy summer travel days starting July 1st at its main hub in Xiamen, the airline is opening a “Baggage Care Counter.” This provides protective materials for valuable or fragile items free of charge as well as optional insurance coverage. Oversized or fragile baggage will be handled by assigned staff throughout the process.

Onboard services have been updated for certain flights departing from major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen out of hubs like Xiamen or Fuzhou. Passengers will receive a “Morning Dew” welcome drink while Anxi Tieguanyin tea has been added across all cabins’ menus. New food options include two varieties of burgers—Super Beef Tasty Burger and Fresh Prawn Tasty Burger—as well as Satay Abalone Shrimp Instant Noodles and Anxi Tieguanyin Cold-Brew Tea Jelly developed in partnership with Michelin-starred restaurant Xian Cheng.

A new in-flight scavenger hunt activity called Xiaoman’s Meet-Up Plan will take place across all aircraft this summer. Passengers can collect stamps related to sustainability themes onboard; collecting enough allows them to redeem gifts.
