Boston Logan International Airport will soon welcome SWISS's Airbus A350-900, making Boston the first long-haul destination for this aircraft from Zurich. The inaugural flight is scheduled for January, following the arrival of SWISS’s first A350-900 in October. The aircraft will initially be used within Europe for crew training and familiarization before starting service to Massachusetts.

With this addition, Boston will have six airlines operating the Airbus A350. According to Cirium Diio data, SWISS joins Air France, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines as operators of the type at Logan. This marks the highest number of A350 operators at Boston since 2024.

The new service by SWISS will begin on January 2 with four weekly flights using the A350-900. These flights will supplement three weekly services operated by the older A330-300 aircraft. It remains uncertain when all flights on this route will transition entirely to the A350.

SWISS’s configuration for its ten new A350s includes 242 seats: three first-class suites (one designed for two people), 45 business class seats, 38 premium economy seats—the most across its fleet—and 156 economy seats. The economy cabin layout shifts from a 2-4-2 arrangement to a standard 3-3-3 format.

Other airlines currently operating or scheduled to operate the A350 between August 2025 and June 2026 include:

- Air France (Paris CDG): Double daily in summer; daily in winter.

- Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong): Daily service with both -900 and -1000 variants.

- Lufthansa (Munich): Daily from late October; Frankfurt sees limited operations.

- Qatar Airways (Doha): Daily.

- Turkish Airlines (Istanbul): Daily.

Previously, other carriers such as British Airways, Hainan Airlines, SAS, Iberia, and Virgin Atlantic have also deployed their A350s on routes to Boston on a less regular basis.

Qatar Airways was the first airline to bring an A350 into scheduled service at Boston in March 2016 and has used it more than any other operator since then.

Turkish Airlines has maintained near-daily Istanbul-Boston service since May 2014. Initially deploying older models like the A340-300 and A330-300, it introduced the Boeing 787-9 briefly before switching to regular use of the Airbus A350 from March 2023 onward. In the year leading up to February 2025, Turkish Airlines carried about 163,000 passengers between Istanbul and Boston; roughly three quarters connected onward through Istanbul with Beirut being a top connecting destination along with Cairo, Athens, Bangkok, and Tirana.

The Airbus A350 is manufactured by Airbus as a widebody aircraft. Qatar Airways was its launch customer when deliveries began in February 2018.
