Earlier this year, a Delta Connection Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft crashed in snowy conditions while landing in Toronto. The incident, which occurred in February, resulted in the plane overturning after touchdown. While there were no fatalities among the 80 people on board Flight 4819, at least 21 occupants sustained injuries.

Vanessa Miles, a 67-year-old flight attendant for Endeavor Air who was deadheading to her next assignment on the flight, is now suing Delta Air Lines for $75 million in damages. According to reports from The Independent and CBC News, Miles alleges that Delta endangered passengers and crew by assigning an inexperienced pilot to the flight and failing to provide adequate training.

Miles reportedly suffered fractures and trauma-based injuries during the crash. She claims she remains unable to work due to her injuries. In her lawsuit, Miles also accuses Delta and Endeavor of neglecting proper maintenance of the aircraft's landing gear and not establishing sufficient emergency response procedures.

An employee representing Miles stated: "incidents like this don’t occur without someone’s negligence." They further alleged: "[Delta] knowingly, willfully, and repeatedly placed profits over safety," asserting that these actions led to the crash and Miles' severe injuries.

Delta Air Lines has declined to comment directly on the litigation but said: "Delta declines to comment on pending litigation and continues to fully support the Transportation Safety Board of Canada’s ongoing investigation."

CBC News reports that at least 19 other passengers have also filed lawsuits against Delta and Endeavor as a result of the accident. The airline maintains that both pilots were qualified; according to CBC, the First Officer had completed training ten months prior to the crash, and the Captain was also considered experienced.

A preliminary report indicated that the aircraft's nose was pitched unusually before impact but did not determine a cause for the hard landing. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is expected to release its final report in fall 2026. Legal proceedings related to this incident are anticipated to continue for some time.

Delta Air Lines is one of North America's major carriers with hubs at several airports including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and New York JFK Airport. It operates under the SkyTeam alliance with CEO Ed Bastian at its helm.
