Roberto Alvo, CEO LATAM Airlines Group | LATAM Airlines Group

LATAM Airlines Group has announced the introduction of a new cabin class, Premium Comfort, for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. The airline said the new premium cabin will be available starting in 2027 as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize long-haul operations.

The Premium Comfort class will be positioned between LATAM’s existing Premium Business and Economy cabins. According to LATAM, this new offering is designed to provide passengers with wider seats, greater recline, increased seat pitch, and fewer seats overall for enhanced space and privacy on long-haul flights. Passengers can also expect improved dining options and personalized service. The cabin will feature 16-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth support, USB-C charging ports, and individual power outlets.

Currently, LATAM offers three cabin classes: Premium Business, Premium Economy (only on single-aisle aircraft), and Economy. With the addition of Premium Comfort on its widebody Boeing 787s, the airline aims to fill the gap between economy and business class by providing an experience similar to traditional premium economy products found on other airlines.

Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group, stated: “Premium Comfort reflects our deep understanding of our customers’ evolving needs and our commitment to providing more options so every passenger can travel the way they want. It is a product that combines comfort, space, and high-level service with exceptional value, and it also represents a statement of how we envision the future of flying from South America to the world: a journey where privacy, design, and the warmth of our region come together to create a unique experience.”

LATAM currently operates 37 Boeing 787 Dreamliners—27 are 787-9s while ten are 787-8s—and expects delivery of another 15 Boeing 787-9 aircraft in coming years. The current configuration for these planes includes two classes: business class (30 seats) and economy (274 seats) for the larger model; business class (30 seats) and economy (217 seats) for the smaller variant.

The airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners have two types of business seating: Business and Suites. Suites include an extra door for added privacy compared to standard Business seats. Starting in 2027, selected long-haul routes will feature the new Premium Comfort cabin alongside these existing offerings.

In addition to upgrading its long-haul fleet interiors with over $100 million invested in improvements such as those planned for its Dreamliners—including new seating arrangements—LATAM is also updating most of its Airbus A319 narrowbody aircraft due to limited availability of new planes on the market. The company plans a $40 million retrofit program covering upgrades like new seating across both economy and premium economy sections as well as enhanced connectivity features onboard these regional jets used mainly out of Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport and São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport.

The A319 retrofitting project began in May; two aircraft have been completed so far with all work expected finished by late 2026.
