Amtrak will introduce its next-generation Acela trainsets on August 28, according to an announcement made Thursday. The new trains represent a significant upgrade for passengers and mark a milestone for Amtrak after several years of delays.
The initial rollout will include five new trainsets. Amtrak stated that some Acela services will continue to use the current equipment in the coming months as more new trains are gradually added to the fleet. In total, 28 new Acela trains are expected to enter service by 2027.
While Amtrak did not provide a detailed deployment schedule, it confirmed that travelers can identify which departures use the new trainsets during the booking process. Passengers are advised to check their seat assignments on the Amtrak app to determine if they are booked on one of the updated trains.
