A British Airways Airbus A350-1000, operating as flight BA198 from Mumbai to London Heathrow, was diverted to Doha on August 11 after the pilots declared an in-flight emergency. The incident was first reported by AIR Live. The aircraft departed from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 in the early afternoon for a journey scheduled to last nearly ten hours.
According to flight tracking data, the plane took off at 13:42 local time, slightly behind schedule. While cruising over the Persian Gulf near Qatar, the crew declared a general emergency by transmitting a 7700 squawk code. The aircraft landed safely at Hamad International Airport in Doha at 14:00 local time.
The plane remained on the ground in Doha for almost four hours before resuming its journey to London at 18:05. At the time of reporting, it was still en route and expected to arrive at London Heathrow around 22:30. British Airways has not disclosed the reason for the emergency declaration and was unable to provide immediate comment when contacted.
