Air France-KLM launches Short Connection Pass for quick transfers at Paris Charles de Gaulle

Air France-KLM has introduced a new system to help passengers with short connection times at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) reach their flights more efficiently. The initiative, called the “Short Connection Pass,” is designed to alert travelers when their connecting time drops below a certain limit and provides them with priority access at security checkpoints and throughout the airport.

The program is part of the Connect France partnership between Air France-KLM and Groupe ADP, which operates Paris’s international airports. When a passenger’s connection window becomes tight—such as 45 minutes for someone connecting from Toulouse to New York—the system automatically triggers a priority process without requiring any action from the traveler.

According to Air France, “Before or upon arrival of their flight, a passenger will receive a text message and an email notifying them that they have very limited time available to reach the boarding gate for their next flight, making them eligible for priority access at security and border control. Soon, passengers will also receive a notification and message through the Air France mobile app as well as WhatsApp.”

Upon reaching security or border control points, travelers’ boarding passes are scanned, alerting Groupe ADP’s service provider so that priority access can be offered. The goal is to reduce wait times at checkpoints and help ensure that passengers make it to their gates within the allotted time.

The effectiveness of this initiative depends on real-time information sharing among Air France, Groupe ADP, and its service providers. They exchange data about estimated walking times in the airport, time needed for security checks and border formalities—including current wait times—and updated departure schedules. This coordinated approach aims to improve CDG’s efficiency as an international hub.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport already offers connections to nearly 300 destinations worldwide. With up to 140,000 daily passengers flying on Air France—about half of whom connect through CDG—airport officials have implemented dedicated routes featuring improved multilingual signage systems to ease transit.

At the 55th Paris Air Show in June, Air France-KLM and Groupe ADP launched Connect France with plans to position CDG as a leading global hub. The Short Connection Pass marks the first major project under this partnership.

The partnership will also emphasize fast-track services based on feedback from travelers and employees: “The partnership will focus on fast-track and priority actions based on feedback from passengers, partners, and employees to enhance the customer experience at the airport. Air France aimed to implement the Short Connection Pass system in summer 2025 and has now achieved that. It also plans to increase direct boarding via jet bridges to minimize bus transfers, especially for long-haul international passengers and those connecting at CDG.”

Other upcoming changes include renaming hub terminals for easier navigation during connections. Additionally, there are plans for a stopover program highlighting attractions in Paris and Île-de-France region; Terminal 2E Hall K will be transformed into a flagship terminal representing French culture.

Air France-KLM Group is also planning further collaboration with Groupe ADP around Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The airline is already one of SAF’s largest buyers globally while Groupe ADP works toward facilitating low-carbon energy across its airports.
