Korean Air will introduce a new Premium Class on its retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with flights set to begin on short- and mid-haul routes starting in mid-September. The airline has invested approximately KRW 300 billion to retrofit 11 of its 27 Boeing 777-300ERs as part of a larger effort to modernize its fleet.

The Premium Class is positioned between Prestige (business) and Economy Class. It offers more spacious seating and upgraded services, with fares generally about 10% higher than standard Economy prices. The cabin includes 40 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 layout, providing about 50% more space than standard Economy seats. Features include a seat pitch of 39 to 41 inches, seat width of 19.5 inches, recline up to 130 degrees, and ergonomic headrests designed for privacy and comfort.

Passengers in Premium Class will have access to an upgraded in-flight entertainment system featuring large 15.6-inch screens with 4K resolution—larger than those currently available in the business class section on the same aircraft. Meals will be served from the Prestige Class menu and presented on Armani/Casa tableware. Beverage service matches that of Prestige Class, including wine, coffee, and tea options.

Additional benefits for Premium Class travelers include priority check-in at Morning Calm counters, Sky Priority boarding, and priority baggage handling.

The overhaul extends beyond Premium Class. Korean Air’s updated Boeing 777-300ER cabins now feature new “Prestige Suites 2.0” for business class passengers in a one-two-one configuration and “New Economy” seating in a three-four-three layout. All cabins are now equipped with Wi-Fi access and improved entertainment systems.

Work on this fleet renewal began in 2018 but was delayed by the pandemic. A Korean Air representative said: “We’re committed to bringing the fully redesigned Boeing 777-300ER and new Premium Class to as many customers as possible. After years of work, we’re proud to now offer an elevated travel experience that meets our passengers’ evolving needs.”

This announcement comes after Korean Air was named Airline of the Year by AirlineRatings last year.
