FedEx has introduced two artificial intelligence-powered tools, Customs AI and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code Lookup Feature, for its Asia-Pacific markets. The new solutions aim to make global shipping documentation simpler for businesses and individuals by integrating them into the FedEx Ship Manager platform on fedex.com.

The company said that incorrect shipping documentation remains a significant issue in global trade. The new features are designed to help users navigate these requirements more easily.

“At FedEx, we are driven by our commitment to delivering flexibility, efficiency, and intelligence for our customers,” said Salil Chari, senior vice president of marketing & customer experience for APAC at FedEx. “By leveraging advanced digital insights and intuitive tools, we’re empowering businesses with the agility to adapt, the efficiency to streamline operations, and the intelligence to make better decisions. These innovations not only simplify global trade but also enable our customers to grow their businesses with confidence in an ever-evolving marketplace.”

The HTS Code Lookup Feature is aimed at improving U.S.-bound shipments. It allows users to enter item descriptions and receive suggestions for appropriate HTS codes along with a confidence score.

Customs AI is available in Australia, Guam, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Philippines. It uses generative AI technology as a chatbot that helps customers provide detailed item descriptions and select corresponding HTS codes for shipment documentation.

Each code suggestion includes a link to the official U.S. HTS tariff schedule so customers can review details directly. The system is regularly updated to comply with changing regulations.

FedEx stated that these new tools will help speed up customs clearance by guiding customers through the process of providing complete information from the start. This can reduce shipment delays during customs checks and lower risks of extra fees or penalties due to mistakes in documentation. Accurate classification may also lead to better estimates of duties and taxes.

To further assist businesses in keeping up with evolving trade regulations, FedEx offers webinars focused on customs compliance and best practices for global shipping. Additional digital import solutions like the FedEx Import Tool and Collaborative Shipping Tool are also available.
