A Frontier Airlines pilot based at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is under investigation after allegedly making a false bomb threat against one of the airline's flights in May. Police believe the incident was intended to target a former Frontier employee with whom the pilot had a personal relationship.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. on May 8 at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, just before a Frontier flight to Cincinnati was scheduled to depart. According to reports from the Cincinnati Enquirer, Captain Kevin Shelton told police he received a call from Frontier’s corporate headquarters stating that passenger Molly Burnam “may be planning a bomb attack” on the plane.

Burnam, then working as a Frontier flight attendant, was removed from the aircraft and questioned by authorities but was cleared after investigators found no credible threat. The report to police was later traced back to Andrew Brenneman, who joined Frontier as a first officer in 2023.

Brenneman and Burnam began dating in November 2024, but their relationship ended five months later when Burnam accused Brenneman of assault. Both were due in Kenton County District Court the next day for a separate case involving abuse allegations. According to the police report, Burnam told officers she believed Brenneman “fabricated the whole story hoping the police would restrain [her] and keep her from attending the court hearing.”

Brenneman was arrested at his home on July 4 and later arraigned on domestic violence and harassing communications charges. He has been suspended by Frontier “until the restraining order incident was resolved.” Burnam resigned from her position at Frontier in July.

Similar incidents have occurred elsewhere in recent years. In May 2023, an Aerolíneas Argentinas flight attendant made a bomb threat before departure from Buenos Aires in an attempt to prevent her ex-boyfriend from traveling with his new partner. The disruption led to evacuation of all passengers and significant financial losses for the airline.

False bomb threats continue to disrupt flights worldwide. In one recent example, an easyJet flight from London Luton to Glasgow made an emergency landing after a passenger shouted threats midair; authorities later confirmed there was no real danger. Earlier that month, an Allegiant Air flight returned to Florida after a passenger falsely claimed his laptop was an explosive device.

Airlines and regulatory bodies have introduced strict measures against such behavior, including heavy fines and prison sentences for those responsible.
