American Airlines and Starlux Airlines have entered into an interline agreement, expanding booking options for travelers between the two carriers. The new arrangement, announced Friday by Taipei-based Starlux, allows passengers to book itineraries that connect flights on both airlines. Under this agreement, baggage will be transferred between American and Starlux flights similarly to what is offered between alliance partners.

However, this collaboration does not extend to full partnership benefits such as earning or redeeming AAdvantage miles on Starlux flights or receiving elite status perks for AAdvantage members traveling with Starlux. Interline agreements typically enable only limited cooperation between airlines.

Starlux currently operates service to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is an American Airlines hub, and plans to begin nonstop flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), another American hub, starting January 15, 2026. This expansion will provide more opportunities for travelers to connect from U.S. cities like Austin or New Orleans through Phoenix onto Starlux’s route to Taipei.

The Taiwanese carrier also serves other U.S. airports including Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Ontario International Airport (ONT). Starlux has a deeper loyalty partnership with Alaska Airlines, a domestic partner of American in the Oneworld alliance.

There has been speculation about whether Starlux might seek membership in the Oneworld alliance in the future. Previous reports indicated interest from airline executives in joining Oneworld; however, no official confirmation has been provided by the company at this time.

EVA Air, another major airline based in Taipei, is a member of Star Alliance alongside United Airlines. China Airlines of Taiwan recently established a new partnership with Southwest Airlines.

"TPG's Clint Henderson described the carrier's business-class product as 'out of this world' on a flight last year from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)."
