Glenn Chai, Chief Executive Officer | STARLUX Airlines

STARLUX Airlines and American Airlines have established an interline agreement aimed at improving travel options between North America and Taiwan. The partnership allows passengers to book a single ticket for journeys involving both airlines, with luggage checked through to the final destination.

The announcement comes as STARLUX prepares to launch nonstop service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) on January 15, 2026. Currently, Phoenix does not offer direct flights to Asia, but this new route will provide that link and allow connections across both airlines’ networks.

Through the agreement, travelers from various American cities—including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth, Mexico City, and others—will be able to connect seamlessly to Taipei. Glenn Chai, CEO of STARLUX Airlines, commented on the development:

“We are very honored to have the partnership with American Airlines — one of the United States top airlines. The partnership will greatly expand STARLUX’s reach into the US, with customers accessing American’s vast North American network. It will also increase travel choices for American Airlines customers looking to travel to Taipei.”

Phoenix serves as a significant hub for American Airlines in the southwestern United States. The timing of STARLUX’s new flights is designed to align with connecting flights operated by American Airlines from major US cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas, Las Vegas, El Paso and others. Flight JX026 from Taipei is scheduled to arrive in Phoenix at 5:40 PM local time; travelers can then access more than 40 destinations via American Airlines. The return flight JX025 departs Phoenix at 10:45 PM for Taipei and offers connections from over 60 US cities.

STARLUX will operate the new route using its Airbus A350-900 aircraft fleet. According to ch-aviation data cited by the airline, these planes have an average age of 1.5 years and seat 306 passengers in four classes: first class (4 seats), business class (26), premium economy (36), and economy (240). In addition to ten A350-900s in its fleet, STARLUX operates thirteen Airbus A321neos and five Airbus A330neos.

In June 2025 STARLUX began operating a new service between Taipei and Ontario International Airport in California using its Airbus A350-900s four times weekly through October 25. With this addition STARLUX now maintains four direct corridors between Taiwan and the US West Coast.

Other current nonstop destinations served by STARLUX in the United States include Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The Ontario-to-Taipei route has become the airline’s longest US service at nearly 6,000 nautical miles.

American Airlines was founded in 1926 and is a full-service carrier based out of several hubs including Charlotte Douglas International Airport; Chicago O'Hare; Dallas/Fort Worth; Los Angeles; Miami; New York JFK; LaGuardia; Philadelphia; and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It is part of the oneworld alliance under the parent company American Airlines Group.
