Air Canada operates 47 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft as part of its mainline narrowbody fleet, which also includes Airbus A220-300s, A321ceos, A320ceos, and a pair of A319ceos. The airline's MAX 8s are scheduled to be operated by its lower-cost unit, Rouge, in the future.

The first Boeing 737 MAX 8 joined Air Canada's fleet in October 2017. The most recent delivery occurred in May 2025. Aircraft delivered during 2024 and 2025 feature an all-economy configuration with 189 seats, aiming to reduce seat-mile costs for leisure routes. The remaining aircraft have a two-class configuration: 16 business seats that do not recline into flat beds and 153 economy seats.

From September to December, Air Canada is scheduled to operate the MAX on 148 different routes, according to Cirium Diio data. Of these, 39 are domestic and 108 are international routes. Some of these flights occur only once or a few times on the type.

A review of maximum block times—defined as the time from chocks-off to chocks-on—shows that the longest scheduled flight on Air Canada's Boeing 737 MAX 8 is between Edinburgh and Montréal at up to seven hours and twenty minutes nonstop. This seasonal service runs three times weekly over the summer months.

Other lengthy international services include Miami back to Vancouver (6h59m), London Heathrow back to Halifax (6h55m), Cancun back to Vancouver (6h45m), Huatulco back to Vancouver (6h40m), Vancouver to Kona (6h34m), Vancouver to Honolulu (6h33m), Montréal to San Francisco (6h32m), Montréal to Puerto Vallarta (6h30m), and Montréal to Los Cabos (6h30m).

The Edinburgh–Montréal route was launched on June 26 from Montreal’s airport, marking its debut between these two cities. Covering approximately 2,634 nautical miles each way, this new link has contributed significantly to Edinburgh Airport’s record North American capacity for the year.

According to booking data cited by Air Canada, prior to launch Edinburgh ranked as the fifteenth-largest unserved North American city for that airport. The new service aims both at stimulating direct traffic and facilitating connections across Canada and into the United States.

The introduction of services such as Edinburgh–Montréal and Huatulco–Vancouver marks a change from last year’s list of longest MAX-operated flights; both routes are new additions for Air Canada’s network this year.

On domestic operations like Halifax–Vancouver—previously among the longest—the current schedule narrowly misses inclusion among the top ten longest block times. Two daily flights continue until late October before pausing for winter.
