Air New Zealand has announced a special event called SYNTHONY in the Sky, which will take place on board Flight NZ1331 from Auckland to Sydney on Thursday, December 4, 2025. This initiative aims to combine air travel with a live music experience at 30,000 feet.

The flight will feature performances by Shapeshifter (DJ set), DJ Dick Johnson, and other guests associated with SYNTHONY. Passengers will be able to attend a live electronic dance music and classical orchestra concert during their journey across the Tasman Sea. Each ticket also includes access to SYNTHONY No.5 at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on December 5.

Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O'Brien stated, "We're not just flying you across the Tasman. We're flying you straight into the heart of a one-of-a-kind music experience offering a completely unique onboard moment – an immersive, high-energy celebration at altitude.

"We love creating moments our customers will talk about long after they land, and SYNTHONY in the Sky is exactly that – an unforgettable, one-off experience."

Captain David Elmsly, who is both an Air New Zealand pilot and an original founder of SYNTHONY, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: "Bringing SYNTHONY to life in the air is something I never imagined when we first started out – and now I get to see it take off in a whole new way. It's a surreal, full-circle moment that combines two of my passions, and I can't wait to see it come to life on board," says Captain Elmsly.

Flight NZ1331 departs Auckland at 4:20 p.m., with fares set at $549 NZD one-way. The price covers both the inflight concert and entry into SYNTHONY No.5 in Sydney. Tickets are available through www.airnewzealand.co.nz/synthony.

Seats are limited as this is a single scheduled event with no repeat flights.
