Alaska Airlines announces fleetwide rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi for loyalty members

Alaska Airlines has announced plans to install Starlink Wi-Fi on its entire fleet, making high-speed internet available at no cost to Atmos Rewards members. The rollout is set to begin in December, with the airline aiming to complete installation across all aircraft by early 2027.

This move follows Alaska Air Group’s acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines last year. Hawaiian was the first U.S. airline to offer Starlink connectivity and has already equipped many of its planes with the service. The new initiative will see Alaska-branded jets, including recently acquired Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 787s that will be repainted next year, outfitted with Starlink technology.

"Alaska's Wi-Fi upgrade comes after parent company Alaska Air Group last year acquired Hawaiian, which has already installed Starlink on many of its planes. (In fact, Hawaiian was the first U.S. carrier to equip planes with Starlink connectivity.)"

The free Wi-Fi service will be available exclusively to members of Atmos Rewards, a joint loyalty program launched by Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines.

The decision comes as several major airlines are enhancing their inflight internet offerings. Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue, and Hawaiian have already started or completed providing complimentary onboard browsing for loyalty members. American Airlines is expected to introduce free Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members next year, while Southwest Airlines is currently evaluating whether its bandwidth can support a similar model for Rapid Rewards members.

Alaska’s plan includes adding Starlink service not only to its more than 230 Boeing 737 and 737 MAX aircraft but also to regional jets operated by Horizon Air and SkyWest. For Hawaiian Airlines, Airbus A330 and A321neo aircraft already feature Starlink connectivity; however, the Boeing 717s used for inter-island flights will not receive the upgrade.

"Alaska plans to begin installing the Starlink satellites on its planes this December, and it hopes to have its entire fleet outfitted by early 2027."

This development reflects an industry trend toward improved inflight connectivity and expanded benefits for frequent flyers through loyalty programs.
