Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has announced a request for proposals (RFP) for its Art Exhibition Program, inviting artists and curators to submit ideas for temporary exhibitions. This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience through meaningful public art that reflects the identity of Los Angeles.

According to the official RFP document, the LAX Art Exhibition Program is commissioning temporary exhibitions and installations across airport facilities as part of its ongoing arts initiatives. Artists, curators, and artist teams are encouraged to develop proposals that reflect the city’s narrative and sense of place.

The RFP outlines project-specific curatorial budgets ranging from $9,000 to $14,000. These funds cover artist fees, research, installation, de-installation, and exhibition labeling. The financial structure ensures full funding for both creative development and logistical execution. Additionally, up to twenty artists, curators, or teams may be selected to form the 2025 Arts Exhibition Program Pre-Qualified Roster, providing successful applicants with priority access to commission opportunities.

This opportunity is open specifically to professional artists, independent curators, and teams residing in Southern California — including the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura, and Santa Barbara. The program welcomes applicants working in any medium or style and encourages submissions for both solo and group exhibitions. By inviting regional participants, LAX aims to foster a culturally relevant and locally grounded creative program within its international airport environment.

The LAX Art Program was initiated in 1990 with the goal of bringing diverse art experiences into the airport and nearby FlyAway bus terminal. It features temporary exhibitions, permanent installations, and cultural performances. For over three decades, the program has partnered with local and regional artists to deliver dynamic contemporary artworks that humanize the travel experience while spotlighting Southern California’s creative talent. The program continues to evolve as a cultural cornerstone of LAX by integrating art across transit and travel spaces.
