Israel purchases two more Boeing KC-46 tankers with US military aid

"The purchase is being entirely funded through US military aid to Israel, which totals billions each year. This arrangement highlights how closely the two countries’ defense priorities are aligned. For the US, ensuring that its ally has the latest equipment is part of a broader strategy to counter potential adversaries. The KC-46’s deployment with the Israeli Air Force will also serve as a further demonstration of American aerospace technology in active operational environments," according to the press release.

Regional tensions remain high, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear program. Israel has not ruled out long-range operations if diplomatic efforts fail, making aerial refueling assets like the KC-46 essential for sustained operations at greater distances.

The acquisition will help replace older Boeing 707-derived KC-135 tankers currently used by Israel with more capable multirole platforms that can transport personnel and cargo and provide communications support alongside their primary refueling mission.

By increasing its fleet of modern tankers, Israel aims to strengthen both its deterrence posture and its ability to conduct independent operations if required.
