Flair Airlines has announced the appointment of three new executive leaders, with Eric Tanner stepping into the role of Chief Commercial Officer. In a recent interview on the Time On The Wing podcast, Tanner discussed his perspective on the ultra-low-cost-carrier (ULCC) model in North America. He stated that the ULCC approach does not align with Flair's strategy and questioned its effectiveness in the region.

Tanner, who previously managed revenue and network planning at Flair, highlighted that Flair’s aircraft seat configurations are similar to those of WestJet and that its baggage policies resemble Porter Airlines. He also pointed out that WestJet has introduced an “Ultra Basic” fare to compete with Flair’s pricing. According to Tanner, competition among Canadian airlines is more intense than what European carriers such as Ryanair experience, which he believes raises service standards for passengers beyond what is offered by U.S.-based ULCCs like Spirit or Frontier.

Flair no longer markets itself as a ULCC but continues to position itself as Canada’s low-cost leader. Tanner wrote in a Linkedin post: “As Canada’s only affordable airline left, Flair Airlines plays an essential role in keeping air travel affordable. We are excited to work with stakeholders across the industry to lower prices for our shared customers.”

The airline has emphasized customer service through initiatives such as its On-Time Guarantee (OTG), which compensates passengers if their flight arrives more than 60 minutes late. Earlier this year, Flair introduced the FWD platform—a digital portal providing services like in-seat ordering via “Immfly” and meal credit redemption through “iCoupon.” Tanner noted during his interview that these offerings make Flair’s buy-on-board shopping experience comparable to Air Canada.

All three newly appointed executives—Tanner as CCO, Caitlin Peddle as Chief People Officer, and Juliana Ramirez as Chief Digital Officer—were promoted internally due to their contributions to the company.

On April 22, 2025, Flair completed all 79 scheduled flights without any delays or cancellations, achieving 100% on-time arrivals. In January 2025, Travel Pulse Canada reported that Flair operated 99.3% of its scheduled flights despite winter conditions, surpassing Porter at 98.4%, and Air Canada and WestJet at 97.3%.

Flair is also focusing on sustainability by using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) across its young fleet of Boeing 737 jets—eighteen of which are MAX 8 models averaging less than six years old according to Planespotters.net—and by partnering with Azerra on emissions tracking through the CELESTE platform. The airline adheres to ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
