Delta Air Lines has launched its first-ever Route Race, allowing SkyMiles Members and Delta employees to vote on the airline’s next European destination for summer 2026. Voting opened on August 25 and will continue through August 29. The initiative gives customers and staff a direct role in shaping the carrier’s future network.

Delta currently serves more than 300 destinations worldwide and recently operated its largest transatlantic schedule to date, which included its inaugural nonstop flight to Sicily. The new campaign offers participants a choice among three Mediterranean destinations: Malta, Ibiza (Spain), or Sardinia (Italy).

“SkyMiles Members and Delta people are at the center of everything Delta does. The Route Race is a celebration of their influence, giving our community a voice in where they want to fly next and inviting them to help shape Delta’s global network,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning. “The destinations where Delta flies are more than just dots on a map – they’re gateways to culture, connection and possibility, and this is a chance for our Members and employees to bring one of them closer.”

SkyMiles Members can cast their votes via the airline’s app by navigating to the Explore and Trip pages, confirming membership credentials, and submitting their preferred destination. Each candidate is represented by a Delta jet within the app interface. Results will be announced about 30 days after voting closes.

Malta offers travelers historic sites such as megalithic temples older than Egypt’s pyramids or Stonehenge, with experiences including exploring Valletta’s old town or cruising to the Blue Lagoon from Malta International Airport (MLA). Ibiza features energetic nightlife as well as quieter beaches; notable attractions include Es Vedrà island off Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and renowned DJ venues. Sardinia stands out for its scenic coastline accessible from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB), ancient ruins, local food traditions like pecorino cheese tasting, and status as one of five global “Blue Zones” known for longevity.

Delta has also introduced an updated Route Map tool online that allows customers to search destinations based on interests such as hiking or museums as well as practical filters like flight duration or number of stops.

SkyMiles Membership continues to provide members with exclusive benefits while now offering input into route planning decisions.
