In the week spanning August 19 to 25, several airlines launched new routes and marked milestones, reflecting ongoing changes in global air travel.

flyadeal, the low-cost subsidiary of Saudia, began new services from Riyadh to Peshawar and Islamabad on August 24. Each route will operate twice weekly. The airline’s CEO, Steven Greenway, previously described flyadeal’s approach: "We’re a bus. That’s what we are. We are unashamedly a bus.” He also noted that international passengers currently account for about 20% of the carrier's traffic but expects this to rise to 35% by year-end. The addition of these Pakistani routes is intended to support this growth target. Another planned route from Dammam to Karachi was scheduled for August 25 but has since been removed from schedules. Riyadh-Sialkot flights began on August 26 with three weekly frequencies.

Alaska Airlines entered the Phoenix Sky Harbor–San Diego International market on August 20, offering three daily mainline flights. This move makes Alaska the fourth airline on this short-haul route—joining Southwest, American, and Frontier—and marks the first time since 2003 that four carriers have operated simultaneously between these cities. During Alaska's first week in the market, there were a total of 118 one-way flights among all four airlines.

STARLUX launched its shortest route yet between Taiwan Taoyuan and Shimoji Island in Japan, flying twice weekly with an Airbus A321neo. This service is limited-time only and typically takes less than 40 minutes each way according to Flightradar24 data. STARLUX is now the only Taiwanese airline serving Shimoji Island and operates its 14th Japanese destination overall.

Frontier Airlines returned to the Nashville–Dallas/Fort Worth market on August 22 with flights operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. The airport pair sees about 1,030 local passengers daily over a year-long period ending March 2025; including Dallas Love Field raises that figure to nearly double. Frontier has previously operated this route in both 2021 and earlier in 2024 before suspending service last year as Spirit exited the market.

Separately, Lufthansa celebrated six decades of service to Singapore last week. Its first flight took place in 1965 when a Boeing 720 flew from Frankfurt via Athens, Karachi, and Bangkok before landing at Paya Lebar Airport (as Changi had not yet opened). Today Lufthansa operates thirteen weekly flights into Singapore: seven with a Boeing 747-400 from Frankfurt—the fourth-longest nonstop passenger flight out of that hub—and six weekly Munich-Singapore flights using an Airbus A350-900.
