Teamsters union officials are seeking to overturn the results of a recent vote by employees at Imperial Bag & Paper Co. in Orlando, Florida, who chose to remove the union as their representative. The effort to decertify the International Brotherhood of Teamsters was led by employee Lionel Powell, with legal support from National Right to Work Foundation staff attorneys.
In July, Powell submitted a petition signed by enough coworkers to prompt the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to conduct a decertification election. The NLRB is responsible for enforcing federal private-sector labor law and resolving disputes involving employers, unions, and workers.
The election took place on August 7 among all full-time and regular part-time drivers and shuttle drivers at the Orlando facility. A majority voted against continued representation by Teamsters union officials.
