Delta Air Lines is expanding its transatlantic network from Boston Logan International Airport, planning to operate a record 12 European routes in the summer of 2026. This move solidifies Delta's position as the largest operator for European flights out of Boston, with data from Cirium Diio indicating that the airline accounts for just over 20% of all transatlantic services from the city. When considering only U.S. carriers, Delta’s share rises to more than half.

In 2025, Delta operates regular European flights from ten U.S. hubs and airports, increasing to eleven when including its seasonal service from Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show. Boston ranks as Delta's fourth-largest hub for European widebody operations behind New York JFK, Atlanta, and Detroit.

Starting in May next year, Delta will introduce two new routes from Boston: daily service to Madrid using an Airbus A330-900 and three weekly flights to Nice on the same aircraft type. With these additions, Delta becomes the third carrier offering nonstop flights between Boston and Madrid—joining Iberia and JetBlue—and marks the first time Nice will have direct service from Massachusetts.

The Madrid route is seen as strategically important due to Delta’s codeshare partnership with Air Europa and in response to JetBlue’s recent entry into the market. The Nice route targets strong demand for Southern Europe travel; booking data shows that between July 2024 and June 2025, there were approximately 26,000 round-trip passengers traveling between Boston and Nice. Other unserved Southern European markets like Venice and Naples had higher passenger volumes but are considered less profitable for airlines compared to Nice.

Cirium data reveals that overall demand for Southern Europe—including Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Greece—has reached unprecedented levels in 2025 across all carriers operating from the United States. Delta is reportedly considering further expansion with possible new services from JFK to destinations such as Ibiza, Malta, or Sardinia.

With these changes planned for summer 2026 (subject to revision), Delta’s twelve European routes from Boston will include Amsterdam (two daily flights), Athens (daily), Barcelona (daily), Dublin (daily), Edinburgh (daily), Lisbon (daily), London Heathrow (daily), Madrid (daily), Milan Malpensa (four weekly), Nice (three weekly), Paris Charles de Gaulle (daily), and Rome Fiumicino (daily). This surpasses previous years; prior to this expansion, Delta’s highest number of European routes from Boston was ten in summer 2025.

Delta has confirmed that Barcelona service will increase from three times per week in 2025 to daily in 2026 and will start earlier in the year along with Milan Malpensa flights.

According to historical records from the U.S. Department of Transportation since 1990, only two Boston-Europe routes operated by Delta have been discontinued: London Gatwick ended after its launch in June 2001 due to regulatory restrictions at the time but resumed via Heathrow following policy changes; Keflavik was served briefly during the pandemic in 2021 before being dropped.

Delta Air Lines’ main hubs include several major U.S. airports such as Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and New York JFK Airport. Founded in 1929, it operates under IATA code DL and ICAO code DAL.
