Rakuten will offer triple cash back or American Express Membership Rewards points at several travel and retail brands over Labor Day weekend. The promotion runs from August 30 through September 1, allowing shoppers to earn increased rewards by making purchases through the Rakuten platform.

Participating travel brands include Hotel Collection, Tripadvisor, Sixt, Choice Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Group, Samsonite, and Viator. Shoppers can earn up to 22.5% cash back or an equivalent number of Amex points per dollar spent with some of these brands. Other retailers involved in the promotion span beauty (Tatcha, Fenty Beauty, ELF Cosmetics), fashion (The North Face, Converse, Hollister, Nike, Birkenstock), and lifestyle sectors (Brooklinen, PetSmart, Temu, Petco).

New Rakuten users who sign up using a referral link and make $30 in qualifying purchases within their first 90 days can receive a $30 cash-back bonus along with the person who referred them.

Shoppers are advised to stack Rakuten earnings with discounts offered by merchants when possible but should use only coupon codes found on Rakuten’s site to avoid voiding rewards. It is also possible to combine Rakuten rewards with hotel or rental car loyalty programs if bookings are made directly through those companies’ websites.

Using credit cards that offer additional rewards for travel or online shopping can further increase benefits. For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Wells Fargo Autograph Card both provide bonus points on travel purchases. The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card series offers two miles per dollar spent on all purchases. Those with the new Rakuten American Express Card can get an extra 4% cash back or four Amex points per dollar on all Rakuten transactions.

Some credit card holders may find targeted offers aligning with these deals; for instance, a current Chase Sapphire Preferred offer gives 15% back at Sixt for spending $500 or more by September 30.

Customers are reminded to check specific terms for each merchant as exclusions may apply regarding certain types of discount codes or card-linked offers.

Shopping portals such as Rakuten present opportunities to earn additional rewards on regular purchases. Consumers considering travel bookings or other major buys over Labor Day weekend might benefit from timing their transactions during this promotional period. Checking aggregator sites that compare portal offers could help ensure access to the best available deals.
