Copa Airlines announced on X that it will launch flights to Puerto Plata and resume service to Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic starting January 2026, with three weekly flights via its Hub of the Americas in Panama.

According to Copa Airlines’ official announcement, the expansion adds new Caribbean connectivity by introducing Puerto Plata and reinstating Santiago de los Caballeros to its route map. Puerto Plata is promoted by the airline for its beaches and resort appeal, while Santiago is described as the cultural and economic heart of the Cibao region. Copa underscored that these routes will strengthen Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport as the Hub of the Americas, linking the Caribbean with Latin America and beyond.

Copa Airlines confirmed that both routes will operate with three weekly frequencies through its hub at Tocumen International Airport. This schedule balances demand with operational efficiency while ensuring consistent links for both leisure and business travel to the Dominican Republic. The airline added that services are subject to restrictions, government approvals, and potential changes, reflecting the regulatory process behind international route launches.

According to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed a record 10 million visitors in 2023, underscoring its position as the Caribbean’s leading tourist destination. Puerto Plata remains one of the nation’s top resort hubs, while Santiago is increasingly attracting cultural and commercial visitors. Copa’s decision to expand into these cities supports government strategies to diversify air access points and spread tourism revenue across different regions.

According to Copa Airlines’ corporate profile, the carrier was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Panama City. It operates a network of more than 80 destinations in 33 countries across North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean, consolidating traffic through its Hub of the Americas at Tocumen International Airport. Copa is a member of the Star Alliance and is consistently recognized for its strong on-time performance and extensive regional connectivity.
