Hong Kong Airlines has expanded its Complimentary Transit Lounge Access campaign, now allowing economy class passengers to access the Club Autus lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The initiative, which began in June 2025, will continue until March 31, 2026.

The complimentary lounge access is available to travelers flying between Hong Kong and three specific destinations: Melbourne Airport (MEL), Sydney Kingsford International Airport (SYD), and Vancouver International Airport (YVR), provided they have a layover at HKG. Traditionally reserved for business class travelers, the Club Autus lounge reopened in October 2023 after being closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paul Forbes, a representative of Hong Kong Airlines in Australia, commented on the announcement: “We understand that long connections can be tiring. By offering complimentary lounge access, we aim to ensure our guests enjoy a premium experience that combines comfort, convenience, and care—hallmarks of Hong Kong Airlines’ service.”

The Club Autus lounge provides buffet-style light meals with both Chinese and Western options such as sandwiches, dim sum, fried rice, noodles, porridge, and soup. Beverages include wine, coffee, soft drinks, and juice. Passengers can also take some individually packaged items onboard. Amenities feature relaxation zones with chaise lounges, workspaces for business needs, private shower suites for freshening up during layovers, and a children’s area near the windows.

Access to the lounge is granted not only to eligible transit economy passengers but also to Business Class ticket holders (excluding involuntary upgrades), members of the Fortune Wings Club at Platinum, Gold or Silver levels, those with an HKA VIP Lounge Invitation Letter or Lounge Voucher, and Dragon Pass members. The facility operates daily from 6:30 AM to 2:30 AM; outside these hours eligible passengers may use the Plaza Premium Lounge near Gate 1.

Hong Kong Airlines was established in 2006 as a full-service carrier based at HKG. The airline serves nearly 30 destinations across Asia-Pacific—including routes into Australia and Canada—and operates a fleet of about 30 aircraft. Unlike low-cost carriers such as AirAsia or HK Express that also serve Hong Kong International Airport ([source](https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/airline/HX)), Hong Kong Airlines positions itself alongside Cathay Pacific as a full-service airline. It has held a four-star Skytrax rating since 2011.

The airline's fleet consists exclusively of Airbus models—17 A320-200s for short-haul operations; seven A330-300s for longer international routes; and three A321-200s—with an average age of just over eleven years ([source](https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/airline/HX)). This makes it slightly younger than rival Cathay Pacific’s fleet average age of more than twelve years.

By enhancing amenities like complimentary lounge access even for economy travelers on select routes via its main hub ([Hong Kong International Airport information](https://www.hongkongairport.com/en)), Hong Kong Airlines aims to attract more passengers while challenging market leader Cathay Pacific on key international corridors.
