Federal Express Corporation has announced the launch of its Collaborative Shipping Tool in Australia and New Zealand, aiming to simplify the import process for customers. The new digital platform allows importers and shippers to work together on Airway Bill (AWB) creation, which is expected to improve efficiency in moving goods internationally.

The tool’s introduction comes as global merchandise trade is forecasted to rise by 3% in 2025, with imports into Asia projected to grow by 5.1%, according to a recent report from the World Trade Organization (https://www.wto.org/english/news_e/pres24_e/pr949_e.htm). Studies have shown that failed pickups and lack of shipment visibility are among the main challenges faced by importers worldwide. These issues can disrupt business operations and highlight the need for digital solutions such as those now being offered by FedEx.

The Collaborative Shipping Tool enables importers to share AWB creation with shippers, allowing both parties to confirm shipment details and schedule pickups based on readiness. This collaborative approach aims to increase pickup success rates and minimize delays.

“Importing can be complex, often involving multiple stakeholders and intricate transportation and logistics processes, but it doesn’t have to be,” said Peter Langley, Regional Vice President of FedEx Australasia. “FedEx is leveraging digital innovation to create smarter transportation and logistics solutions that address these challenges. The Collaborative Shipping Tool enables importers and shippers to collaborate on a centralised platform and work together seamlessly, while improving visibility and boosting efficiency throughout the import journey. The Tool represents the future of import logistics – a digitally driven, collaborative ecosystem that simplifies complex processes and unlocks new levels of efficiency”.

Key features include real-time insights into the pickup process for greater transparency, improved data accuracy through direct collaboration between importer and shipper, as well as an intuitive user interface designed for ease of use.

Currently available across Asia Pacific, Europe, United States, Canada, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa—with terms applying—the tool expands upon existing FedEx digital offerings like the FedEx Import Tool. Together these services aim to streamline international shipping for businesses operating globally.
