The Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association (SDA), an affiliate of UNI Global Union in Australia, has launched a campaign aimed at addressing psychosocial risks in the workplace. The initiative comes after research highlighted ongoing issues for workers in retail, fast food, and warehousing sectors.
According to the SDA, their new five-point plan is designed to respond to risks such as chronic understaffing, digitalization, algorithmic management, excessive workloads, poor change management by employers, and increased incidents of customer abuse.
The union's recent report titled "Under Pressure: The Hidden Cost of Retail" surveyed more than 11,000 workers. The findings point to widespread exposure to these psychosocial hazards among employees in Australia's second largest employing industry.
