Salt Lake City-based Breeze Airways has decided to cancel its planned nonstop flights between Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport (LAN) before the service began. The decision was confirmed by aviation analytics company Cirium, which noted that the route was originally scheduled to launch on October 1, 2025, with twice-weekly flights.

According to Cirium data, Breeze Airways removed all scheduled flights between Tampa and Lansing from its timetable. The airline canceled nine flights in October and all future services through May 2026. No reason for the cancellation has been provided. Simple Flying reached out to Breeze Airways for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.

The flight distance between Tampa and Lansing is approximately 892 nautical miles (1,653 kilometers). Currently, no other airline offers nonstop direct service on this route.

When announcing the new route earlier this year, Breeze Airways had highlighted plans to connect Lansing with three destinations in Florida. The airline currently operates flights from Lansing to Orlando and Fort Myers. The proposed direct connection to Tampa would have been served by Airbus A220 aircraft.

At the time of the announcement, Breeze Airways stated: “The addition of nonstop service to Tampa gives our community more travel options and greater access to Florida, all with the stress-free travel experience of flying Lansing. We are grateful for our continued partnership with Breeze Airways and for their commitment to our airport and the greater Lansing region.”

Breeze Airways has recently focused on expanding its network into underserved cities across the United States. In July 2025, it announced new destinations including Lincoln, Nebraska—marking its first entry into that state—and Tri-Cities in Tennessee. With these additions, Breeze now serves two airports in Tennessee alongside Memphis; it previously operated in Nashville until 2023. The carrier also plans seven additional routes this winter season.

Most of these new routes will not face direct competition from other airlines; some fill gaps left by carriers exiting those markets. This approach reflects Breeze’s ongoing strategy of targeting underserved city pairs.

Breeze Airways currently operates a fleet totaling 53 aircraft—41 Airbus A220-300s and 12 Embraer E190 regional jets—with an average fleet age of about 13 years based on ch-aviation data. Its Airbus A220-300s can seat up to 137 passengers across three cabin classes: business class (12 seats), economy plus (45 seats), and economy class (80 seats). The Embraer E190s accommodate up to 108 passengers in a two-class layout: economy plus (48 seats) and economy class (60 seats).

Looking ahead, Breeze intends to add another Embraer E190LR as well as take delivery of an additional 51 Airbus A220-300s according to ch-aviation data. Since launching operations in May 2021 under founder David Neeleman, Breeze has expanded rapidly; it now flies over 300 year-round and seasonal routes serving 78 cities across 35 states.
