Delta Air Lines has announced the return of its 12Status loyalty program for Delta SkyMiles members residing in Washington state. The initiative allows participants to earn one mile for every passing yard accumulated by the Seattle Seahawks during the NFL season.

The 12Status program, named after the Seahawks’ fan base known as the “12th man,” is available at no cost, but registration must be completed before the team’s first game, scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. PDT on Sunday.

According to recent data, over the past five seasons, the Seahawks have averaged just over 4,100 passing yards per year. While these miles may not cover a premium Delta One seat to Europe, they can contribute toward award flights and can be combined with other mileage-earning opportunities such as linking Uber and Starbucks accounts or using credit cards that accrue SkyMiles on everyday purchases.

Delta introduced 12Status in 2016. This fall’s campaign comes amid increased competition among airlines in Seattle. Alaska Airlines is expanding its global hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), where Delta also operates a major hub. Both carriers are set to launch nonstop service from Seattle to Rome next year and will compete directly on routes to London.

Alaska Airlines recently unveiled its Atmos Rewards loyalty program in partnership with Hawaiian Airlines following their merger announcement. Meanwhile, Delta has enhanced its offerings at SEA with a new Delta One Lounge and an updated Sky Club facility.
