JetBlue has introduced a new digital tool aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions across its operations. The airline announced it is the first US carrier to implement SkyBreathe MyFuelCoach, an application that allows pilots to review their fuel usage on past flights and receive recommendations for future improvements.

According to JetBlue, the system provides real-time performance insights directly in the flight deck, enabling pilots to refine their procedures as part of the company's broader sustainability strategy. Chris Lum, System Chief Pilot at JetBlue, said:

"With access to SkyBreathe MyFuelCoach on the flight deck, our pilots have access to real-time performance insights that help them refine their procedures and contribute to our JetForward strategy, strengthening our financial foundation through cost savings while also meaningfully addressing our emissions."

The SkyBreathe platform is already used by more than 75 airlines worldwide. In addition to MyFuelCoach, JetBlue uses the SkyBreathe 360 dashboard to identify larger operational trends and analyze data from its scheduled flights. This information helps the airline adjust procedures such as taxiing and manage congestion-prone airports more efficiently.

Recent analytics show that JetBlue operates nearly 5,000 flights per week, providing a substantial dataset for identifying opportunities for efficiency gains.

JetBlue has been active in sustainability initiatives for several years. In 2020, it announced plans to become the first carbon-neutral US airline for domestic flights and recently began using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at New York JFK Airport.

The company reports tangible results from these efforts. Single-engine taxiing has saved JetBlue approximately 15,000 gallons of fuel monthly. By leveraging historical data with SkyBreathe’s tools, it now saves an additional 73,000 gallons per month—equivalent to over 700 tons of CO2 annually.

Joanna Geraghty is currently serving as CEO of JetBlue. The airline's main hubs include Boston Logan International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, New York JFK Airport, Orlando International Airport, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
