Sun Country Airlines is preparing to launch Boeing 737-900ER operations from its base at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport later this month. The airline will introduce these aircraft on select domestic routes, beginning with flights to Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport starting September 26.
The Boeing 737-900ER will become the largest aircraft in Sun Country’s fleet, featuring a configuration of 189 economy class seats. Although acquired by Sun Country two years ago, these planes have until now been leased out to other airlines. According to Bill Trousdale, Chief Financial Officer of Sun Country Airlines, “During this quarter, we took redelivery of our second Boeing 737-900 that was previously on lease to another airline. And we expect both of those aircraft to enter service later this year. We also extended the leases on two of the remaining five aircraft that are on lease to other airlines.”
The carrier plans further expansion for the new jets next month. In October, Orlando International Airport will be added as a destination served by the Boeing 737-900ER from Minneapolis, followed by Fort Myers three days later.
