Google has launched a new feature called Preferred Sources, which allows users to select specific news outlets that will be prioritized in the "Top Stories" section of their search results. This function is available to Google users in the United States and India.

The Points Guy (TPG), a website known for its coverage of travel credit cards, airline updates, hotel loyalty programs, and related financial advice, can now be set as a preferred source. According to TPG, "By doing this, TPG's coverage of the latest credit card offers, airline changes, hotel loyalty program updates and travel tips will more likely be highlighted whenever you use Google Search. It's an easy way to cut through the noise and see the insights you care about most, right when you need them."

To activate this feature for The Points Guy, users can follow a provided link and select TPG from the list of outlets. This step ensures that when searching for topics such as "best travel credit cards" or "new airline loyalty programs," articles from The Points Guy are more likely to appear near the top of search results.

TPG emphasized several benefits for points and miles enthusiasts: "Faster access to news: Exciting new airline routes, new loyalty program perks and travel innovation updates are covered in real time at TPG." The site also noted its focus on analysis: "Expert points and miles analysis: Instead of generic advice, you'll get deep dives into earning rewards, award chart sweet spots and redemption strategies." Additionally, TPG said it offers practical guidance: "Guides you can act on: From reviews of premium credit cards to step-by-step booking walk-throughs, TPG provides information designed to save you money, help you travel better and get the best value from your points and miles."

The company further stated that prioritizing its content may help readers avoid missing important or time-sensitive stories.

According to Google’s announcement (https://blog.google/products/search/google-news-preferred-sources/), Preferred Sources aims to give users greater control over which publishers they see first in their news searches.

"Google's new Preferred Sources feature gives you the power to choose which outlets you'll most likely see in the 'Top Stories' section when searching for content. By adding TPG to your list, you'll most likely get quicker access to our breaking travel news, loyalty updates and credit card offers — helping you stay ahead every time you plan, book and redeem rewards," The Points Guy said.
